FORMER CAPS United defender Dumisani ‘Commando’ Mpofu has shot down suggestions that Makepekepe are the favourites heading into the Harare derby.
CAPS United prevailed 2-1 in the first leg at Rufaro stadium with a late Kudzai Chigwida penalty.
Despite their good season, Dynamos have struggled against opponents from the capital.
Dembare are yet to record a win against a Harare team in five attempts this season.
They lost 2-1 to Caps United, drew with. Herentals and FC Hunters by identical 2-2 scorelines.
The former champions also played back to back draws against champions Scottland.
Mpofu however, does not think Dembare’s record against Harare teams will carry any weight this afternoon.
He rebuffed talk of his former side being favourites for the encounter.
“There is no such thing like that, this is a 50-50 game, we can’t say CAPS have the advantage,” he said.
“Matches pitting these two sides have nothing to do with form, from our playing days it was like that.
“That Dembare have not won against a Harare team means nothing.
“It will be a war, in my view they are the better side heading into this match because they are higher up the table”
Dynamos have been playing with confidence and threat under Romanian, Aristica Cioba.
The Glamour Boys had a chaotic week preparing for the derby with boardroom squabbles dominating the news all week.
But that has always been the norm at the Mbare side.
Only three points separate the two side and a win for Makepekepe will seem them level on points with Dembare.
Former Dynamos captain Justice Majabvi, is expecting an explosive encounter.
“It has been difficult for Dynamos in their fixtures against Harare teams, the best results have been draws,” he said.
“This coming derby on Saturday is going to be interesting because a lot is at stake.”
