AMBITIOUS ZIFA Midlands Province Division 2 side, Chili FC are hopeful of reaching the next stage of the Munhumutapa Cup when they face Blue Stones at Gwanzura stadium this afternoon.
The Gweru side sealed their place in the preliminary stage of the competition after emerging victorious in the ZIFA Midlands Province Division Two league.
Cup competitions often produce surprises and give underdogs a chance to write their own stories.
But for Chili FC, the opportunity to be drawn against some of the country’s biggest teams provides a barometer to assess themselves.
“It’s just something that we really wanted so as to test ourselves in the case we gain promotion to Division One,” said Chili coach, Ronald Mazivofa.
The Gweru side have a number of seasoned players in their ranks such as former Caps defender, Spencer Masunda, ex Chapungu captain Blessed Mbavarira, Michael Sibanda, McDonald Mavuto and Tatenda Mapiye.
“The teams we will be paired with in this round are from the first division,so this is where we can measure ourselves.
