HARDROCK coach, Kelvin Kaindu has publicly defended striker Washington Navaya following a series of abuse of some of the team’s fans.
The Zimbabwe International joined the Kwekwe side from TelOne following an outstanding season at the Wifi Boys.
His standout performances last season saw him win the Soccer Star of the Year award, as well as the Top goal scorer gong.
But Navaya has not quite hit the ground running at Hardrock, although he is beginning to find his feet.
The former Highlanders striker has three goals to his name this campaign.
On Sunday, Navaya was jeered by a section of the Hardrock fans seated at the Kasongo end.
Kaindu has however, leapt to the defence of the gangly forward.
“There are always moments like that, fans always want to win, it is football, the same Navaya that the fans booed, is the same player who gave us the equalizer,” he said.
“Sometimes he may not be at his best that is why we need to encourage him, us as coaches we do not react to what the fans are looking for.
“These are the players that we have and we have to encourage them, one day it is difficult, another day you deliver, football is like that today you are a hero, the next day you are a villain.”
