A new runners club has been established in the Midlands province, that seeks to mould a total athlete combining the physical and mental aspects.
The Midlands Community Runners Club(MCRC) is a Gweru based club that is opening it’s doors to all fitness enthusiasts.
Unlike other runners clubs, the MCRC has added another component to their club, which has already affiliated with the national athletics mother body.
The club’s interim chairperson, Cho Chindanga shared more light on the club’s vision.
“We are a vibrant community of runners and fitness enthusiasts and like minded people from the Midlands,” said Chindanga.
“Our thrust is to show the strength in coming together as a community, we go beyond running to also incoperate community engagements.
“As a club we do not discriminate or categorize people according to race, color or class, everyone is welcome to join.”
The MCRC aims to combat social vices such as drug and substance abuse, mental health related problems.
Chindanga added that plans are under way to roll out programs that will tackle these issues.
“What we are currently working on is to engage local corporates, the city father’s and many other influential bodies,” he pointed out.
“This is not just an ordinary runners club, we have programs that we are doing holding five minute mental health awareness after the fitness classes.
“We have written to other organizations with the view of tackling drug and substance abuse amongst the youths.”
