CHAPUNGU can move to within two points of log leaders Blanket Mine with a win against Sabi Gold Mine this afternoon.

The Air force of Zimbabwe side currently sits second on the Central Region Soccer League table with 63 points, five behind Blanket Mine who are in pole position.

Blanket Mine are not playing league football this weekend as they are participating in the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup.

They are at home to Premiership side FC Platinum at Luveve stadium this afternoon.

It means Chapungu will have a chance to draw closer to the Gwanda side with a win against Sabi Gold Mine.

The Gweru based outfit are optimistic of overturning Blanket Mine’s lead and make a return to the top flight.

“Like we have always been saying come the last game of the season, we will be promoted into the Premiership.

“We have been saying this for some time and we are very confident of this,” said Chapungu assistant coach Moenda Muchingami after the 4-2 win against West Nicholson on Wednesday.

There are six matches left in the season and Chapungu will need to win all their matches to stand a chance.

Elsewhere, Kwekwe United have an opportunity to put their campaign back on track when they host Gwanda side, Super Strikers.

Kwekwe United dropped points in mid-week when they drew 2-2 away to Dulibadzimu.

Former Premiership outfit, Shabanie Mine are at home to MSU at Maglas stadium while Good Morning welcome relegation threatened Shurugwi FC.

In matches played yesterday, Grain Tigers walloped FC Platinum U19 3-0. West Nicholson and Super Strikers played out a goalless draw.

Tongogara and Gwanda Pirates also drew 0-0 while Matobo picked a priceless point against Dulibadzimu.
