KWEKWE United are planning to make a quick come back to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Now playing in the Central Region Soccer League, Kwekwe United are understood to be aiming to make an instant return to the top flight.

The Echo Sports understands that the team has secured a lucrative sponsorship deal for the forthcoming season.

Although no announcement has been made, this publication is reliably informed that Better brands will sponsor the team.

Kwekwe United are understood to have already engaged seasoned coach Jairos Tapera to be the technical director.

The search for the head coach is also underway.

“The team has spoken to Jairos Tapera to be the technical director,” said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.

“They have secured a sponsor who will cover much of their expenses for this season.

“A lot is going to change in terms of how the team is run, they are also rebranding including having a new logo.”

Kwekwe United had a nightmarish debut season in the PSL marred by financial struggles.

They were egregious for their off field disorder which saw them fail to fulfill a home league match against Herentals after an industrial action by the players.

Threats of boycott by players were the order of the day as the club struggled to pay the players their dues.

This led to several senior players jumping ship mid-season while coaches infamously dumped the Kwekwe side.

However, a new breath of fresh air is breezing in the mining town.

The club was scheduled to conduct trials for new players at Kwekwe High School this Wednesday.

This season Gwanda Pirates are the favourites to clinch the sole ticket to promotion into the PSL.

Gweru side Sheasham are dithering on participating in the league after losing out to Hardrock last time out.
