THREE people died and 15 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Zvishavane and Kwekwe on Saturday, with one crash involving a truck that collided with two vehicles, police have said.

The accidents occurred on October 17, according to Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.

In Zvishavane, a 22-year-old woman, Loveness Nhire, died on the spot after a Shackman truck collided with a Toyota Dyna before hitting a Nissan AD van travelling in the opposite direction.

Insp Mahoko said the accident occurred along the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road near the 107km peg.

The Toyota Dyna, driven by Sibusisiwe Nyakunhuwa (39) of Council Park, Zvishavane, was turning right when a Shackman truck driven by Mumanikidzwa Bernah (31) of Maglass, Zvishavane, allegedly attempted to overtake.

The truck hit and dragged the Toyota Dyna before swerving into the path of the oncoming Nissan AD van, eventually landing on its roof.

Eight people were injured in the crash.

In a separate accident along the Harare-Bulawayo Road near the 203km peg outside Kwekwe, two people died on the spot when a Honda Fit collided head-on with an Isuzu double-cab vehicle.

The Honda Fit, which was carrying three people, reportedly encroached into the opposite lane after its driver lost control.

The Isuzu double cab was carrying seven passengers.

Seven people were injured in the collision.

Police said the next of kin of the two people killed in the Kwekwe accident were yet to be notified.

Insp Mahoko appealed to members of the public who had two missing male relatives to visit ZRP Kwekwe Traffic to assist in identifying the bodies.

He urged motorists to maintain safe speeds and observe road safety regulations.
