LEARNERS at Thornhill High School in Gweru woke up to a shocking discovery of a dead body at the school’s sports field on Wednesday morning.

The body has been positively identified as that of a taxi driver who went missing over the weekend.

Police are now carrying out investigations into the circumstances leading to the man’s death.

The body was discovered by learners at the school near the sports field, who then alerted authorities.

His body was removed by the police and taken to Gweru General Hospital for postmortem.

A groundsman at the school,Mike Tete told state media that he first saw the man lying in the grass on Monday morning.

Tete added that his initial assumption was that the man was drunk.

“I was on my way to do my assignment for the day on the squash court when I saw a man lying in the grass,” he said.

“I approached him to check on him but he appeared intoxicated and I left him,” added Tete.

Earlier, the deceased’s car was found parked at a relative’s house in Southdowns.

Police are yet to release the name of the deceased as investigations into the cause of his death continue.
