THE ZRP recently destroyed large quantities of illicit drugs and substances that were being held in police as exhibits.

This follows the successful completion of cases and sentencing of suspects who were found in possession of the prohibited substances.

Amongst the drugs destroyed were 292 894 kg of Chrystal meth, 171 024 kg of dagga and 128 662 litres of cough syrups.

In a statement recently, the ZRP said:

“After the recent arrests by the ZRP, conviction and sentencing of accused persons by the courts for drug and substance abuse, peddling and trafficking, the ZRP coordinated the destruction of exhibits as directed by the Government.

“The exhibits include 292 894 kg of Chrystal Meth, 171 024 kg of dagga, 128 662 litres of cough syrups, 15 litres of illicit beverages, 77kg skin lightening creams, 100 litres of illicit Zimbo Vodka and 86kg of various medicines.”

The country has stepped up efforts to combat drug and substance abuse, which has become rife amongst the youths.

Police warned that there is no turning back on the campaign to rid the streets of these dangerous drugs.

“The ZRP reiterates that there is no going back in the fight against drug and substance abuse in the country,” the ZRP warned.
