KWEKWE United supporters have written to the club demanding an explanation for the team’s recent poor form.
The former Premiership side has struggled for consistency since the beginning of the second half of the season.
This has seen the team fall five points behind Blanket Mine in the race for promotion.
Concerned by this seemingly free fall, a section of the team’s fans has approached the club.
“We, the Kwekwe United FC Supporters Affiliate and the wider football community, wish to formally express our concerns regarding the team’s performances since the commencement of the second leg of the season,” reads part of the letter to the executive.
“Our intention is not to undermine the club or its leadership, but to draw attention to matters requiring urgent consideration and corrective action while promotion remains achievable.”
Among the grievances by the supporters is the club’s transfer business in the mid season.
They believe the club did not conduct proper transfer business questioning the failure to replace strikers Sydney Urikob and Evans Katema.
“Supporters understand that Urikob was reportedly sold for USD 8,000, while Evans Katema reportedly joined TelOne FC for USD 7,000.
“If accurate, we respectfully request clarification regarding the utilisation of these funds and the reasons no proven striker was recruited to replace them.
The team currently relies heavily on Donald Ngoma, yet a promotion campaign requires greater attacking depth and healthy competition within the squad,” the supporters further questioned.
It appears tensions at Kwekwe United have been simmering for a while amidst reports that defender Patson Jaure was stripped of captaincy.
There are also rumours of a battle for control in the technical department between the coaches.
Former warriors coach, Jairos Tapera is the technical director while Tendai Chikuni is the head coach assisted by Stanley Ncube and Gift Muzadzi as the goalkeepers coach.
“The Head Coach must have clearly defined authority over team selection, tactics, substitutions and overall technical direction.
“Interference from multiple sources can create confusion, undermine accountability and contribute to instability.
“If the Head Coach is held responsible for results, he must also be granted the authority necessary to manage the footballing aspects of the team effectively,” adds the supporters in their letter.
Kwekwe United president Bridget Mudhosi dismissed the suggestions of an unrest.
“I don’t think we respond to supporters, and I doubt if there is any team in Zimbabwe that has to report to supporters,” she said.
