WEST NICHOLSON are slowly earning themselves the ‘giant slayers’ tag in the Central Region Soccer League after yet another impressive weekend where they downed one of the league’s big boys.
The Gwanda based outfit ended Tongogara’s unbeaten run after a 1-0 win on Friday.
They were also responsible for ending Chapungu’s unbeaten streak a few weeks back.
The win against Tongogara guarantees West Nicholson of a top three finish when the league reaches the half way mark.
At the moment they sit pretty in second place level on 38 points with leaders Blanket Mine who have a superior goal difference.
Third placed Chapungu, who were inactive in the Munhumutapa Cup this past weekend are a point behind.
They have a chance to leapfrog West Nicholson if they win their outstanding match on Wednesday.
West Nicholson coach Ofhani Muleya is hoping for the same performance in the second half of the campaign.
“I am very excited, this is the kind of environment we were expecting in the first half of the season,” he said.
“It’s exciting that we worked as a team and the results kept coming.
“We are here just like everyone else, to compete and fight for promotion, I am hoping that we give the same performances in the second half of the season.”
The league will reach the first half of the season this Wednesday wit a couple of mid-week fixtures lined up.
Log leaders, Blanket Mine are away to Good Morning at Kotamai stadium while Chapungu are at home to basement side Matobo.
Gwanda Pirates will host Shurugwi FC while Kwekwe United will host Beitbridge side Vhembe Stars Academy.
The second half of the season promises fireworks as the fight for promotion into the Premier Soccer League intensifies.
The trio of Blanket Mine, Chapungu and Kwekwe United are expected to come guns blazing in the second half of the campaign.
