AS the Central Region Soccer League draws closer to the half way stage, the race for promotion is hotting up and this weekend’s fixtures could prove decisive in the greater scheme of things.

Three explosive fixtures featuring teams in the title race are lined up between today and Sunday.

These are not just ordinary fixtures but a potential turning point in the race of promotion.

Log leaders, Chapungu lead the standings with 36 points, one above second placed Blanket Mine.

The Air force of Zimbabwe side have a difficult away fixture against army side Tongogara at the Battlefields grounds.

That Tongogara are still unbeaten this season makes the military derby more exciting.

Another big clash will unravel at Mbizo stadium when seventh placed Grain Tigers hosts Gwanda Pirates.

The Gwanda side’s campaign has been lukewarm and they cannot afford to drop further points.

On Sunday, the highlight of the weekend will explode at Sabiwa stadium when Blanket Mine clash with Kwekwe United.

Blanket Mine have been clear about their intentions to gain promotion this season.

Under seasoned coach, Luke Petros the Gwanda outfit has been a tough opponent at their home ground.

However, Kwekwe United have hit top form and look unrelenting.

“As previously said at the start of the season, we want to gain promotion back to the PSL, there are no two ways about it,” stated club chairperson, Francis Tavagadza.

“This coming window we are definitely going to make more signings, we can’t reveal names but we have identified areas that need reinforcements and we will be making announcements soon.”

Fourth placed West Nicholson have hat appears an easy fixture on paper when they travel to face Matobo FC.
