KWEKWE United’s title credentials will come under serious scrutiny this afternoon when they face unbeaten Tongogara in a Kwekwe derby at Baghdad stadium.
The former premiership side have been one of the most consistent teams in the Central Region Soccer League.
They currently trail log leaders, Chapungu by three points and sit in second spot with 26 points.
But in Tongogara, Kwekwe United have a difficult hurdle to get past as they army side have been looking solid throughout.
Tongogara are in seventh place on the standings with 22 points, seven behind leaders Chapungu.
Ahead of the match Tongogara coach, Freddie Friday Mudado was playing it safe.
“Kwekwe are the most recent side to return from the top flight and because of that we have to give them a lot of respect,” he said.
“This is going to be a difficult match, we will give them the respect but we won’t be intimidated.
“When you look at our team, we have a solid unit we don’t have big names but fight as a unit, our biggest challenge has been failing to convert and I’m hoping we get that right on Saturday.”
Elsewhere, leaders Chapungu will host the unpredictable Grain Tigers at Ascot stadium on Sunday.
Chapungu have been formidable at home and will be looking to extend their dominance on home turf.
In Zvishavane, Shabanie Mine and Gwanda Pirates will renew their rivalry when the two sides clash at Maglas on Sunday.
Gwanda Pirates are desperate to get back to winning ways after dropping points in a 1-1 draw against Blanket Mine in mid-week.
