BLANKET MINE coach, Luke Petros -Jukulile says it is still too early to consider his side favourites in the title race.

Jukulile’s side are in pole position in the Central Region Soccer League with 41 points.

They have a slender one point lead over second placed Chapungu whom they play against on Sunday.

Speaking to The Echo Sports, the former warriors striker noted that the race for promotion is still wide open.

“Looking at teams in the top eight as of now, they all have a chance of winning the championship,” he said.

West Nicholson are in third place, three points behind the leaders, Kwekwe United are in fourth place with Gwanda Pirates in fifth.

The league will resume for the second round of the season this weekend with a top of the table clash between Blanket Mine and Chapungu.

Ahead of the match, Jukulile spoke highly of the Air force of Zimbabwe side saying he is approaching the match with caution.

“They are also a great team doing well looking at the results they posted in the first round,” he pointed out.

“Chapungu are not pushovers, we have a mentality of treating each and every team in Central region with respect knowing much their abilities of playing good football.

“The game really carries a lot of weight when you put the championship into context.”

Interestingly, the match will see the league’s leading goal scorers battle to outdo each other.

Chapungu’s Edward ‘Kariba’ Watson is the leading goal scorer with 12 goals with Matthew Hlabati of Blanket Mine second on the charts a goal behind.
