BULAWAYO Chiefs have been fined a combined total of US$3000 following disruptions that occured in their 1-0 loss to Hardrock in the Chibuku Super Cup on Sunday.
Amakhosi players and officials caused a furore after the match as they charged against referee, Lawrence Zimondi and his two assistants.
Zimondi awarded Hardrock a contentious penalty that was converted by Tinotenda Muringai.
In the aftermath of the match, all hell broke lose as Chiefs made their feelings known.
This resulted in captain Melikhaya Ncube being red-carded while assistant coach, Agent Sawu arrested for allegedly assaulting first assistant referee Luckson Mhara.
But the Premier Soccer League has swiftly acted descending on the Bulawayo side.
Sawu and Ncube have been fined US$500 each while the club was fined US$2000.
“The Premier Soccer League wishes to advise all stakeholders that Bulawayo Chiefs FC, their Assistant Coach Agent Sawu and Team Captain Melikhaya Ncube have been sanctioned following incidents of disorderly conduct after their Chibuku Super Cup first round match against Hardrock FC played at Chahwanda Stadium on Sunday 16 August 2026,” reads a statement from the PSL.
“The club, Assistant Coach and player were charged under Order 15 of the PSL Standing Orders, Offences and Fines.
“Order 15 makes it an offence for a club, official or player to engage in conduct before, during or after a match that disrupts the orderly proceedings of the game.
“Such conduct includes violent or aggressive acts, damage to equipment and any other unbecoming behaviour.
Bulawayo Chiefs FC was fined $2,000. Agent Sawu and Melikhaya Ncube were each fined $500.”
The issue of poor match officiating has triggered a lot of debate in the domestic premiership.
Last week, Norton Big Boys coach, Rodrick Mutuma went ballistic after his side lost 3-1 to FC Hunters claiming that the referee was biased.
It remains to be seen how the football authorities will deal with the referees mess.
