SHEASHAM fc on Friday night unveiled their 2024 squad ahead of the start of the football season with former FC Platinum, Highlanders and Caps United player Rahman Kutsanzira the biggest name in the squad.
Another former Highlanders player Ray Lunga has found a new home at the Gweru side and will be part of Lizwe Sweswe’s side after he was offloaded by Bosso last week.
Other notable faces in the squad include former Tsholotsho player Lucky Vundla, Efinos Kamunda who was with Triangle and Kim Joe Sibanda who leads a host of former Bulawayo Chiefs players that have followed Sweswe to the construction boys.
Former Nichrut forward Shepherd Sithole was also present at the event but was not announced in the squad as he is yet to pen to paper.
Sheasham however, missed out on highly rated midfielder Marshall Mugaviri who has since joined Chapungu despite having trained with the construction boys for almost a fortnight.
There was also no place for striker Liberty Masveure and Thubelihle Jubane who are both rumoured to be on their way to joining last season’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) runners up Manica Diamonds.
“This event today is a result of massive collective effort that began when our team failed to retain its place in the premiership through relegation last year,” club president Clever Mandaza said.
Mandaza added that the club’s vision is to return to the premiership and hopes to see some of his players moving abroad.
“Besides targeting a return to the Premier league, some of our goals with the senior team are to have some of our players called to the national team and to be invited to play abroad. It will be sad to see players leave but if it is for a higher calling I will be satisfied,” he added.
The club also announced the return of former player Michael ‘Migo’ Mageja as one of the juniors coaches where he will be working together with Kuda Musharu.
There were changes in the club’s executive where Dr Crispen Ngwenya takes over from lawyer Reginald Chidawanyika as chairperson. Gweru businessman Tawedzerwa Dzvokora comes in as his deputy.
Experienced football administrator, Pithius Shoko is the new secretary general. Simbarashe Sibanda comes in as the board member responsible for security while Elias ‘Dj Vas’ Maginya retains his place as board member responsible for communication.
Former Gweru United striker Wonder Chaka will continue to serve as the club’s chief executive officer spearheading sports development.
The Gweru side also received numerous donations and pledges from corporates in the city and around. Build Easy hardware pledged to assist the construction boys with at least US$ 5000 this season.A consortium of corporates in Redcliff pledged US$ 10 000 towards the team’s cause this season.
