“Form is temporary but class is permanent” this certainly rings true for Chapungu striker Edward ‘Kariba’ Watson.

The talismanic forward is back for the Air force of Zimbabwe side and defenders in the Central Region Soccer League are already fretting with fear.

After suffering a career threatening injury in September 2024, it seemed like it was over for Watson.

At that time he was in menacing form finishing as the top goal scorer with 15 goals in that campaign.

Having missed out on action for the rest of last season, very few gave Watson a chance to even make the first 11 at the Gweru side.

Four games into the season, Watson is the top goal scorer with five goals.

“I don’t have an exact target of goals I’m expecting to score this season but I’m hoping to better my previous tally of 15,” he told The Echo Sports.

Watson reflected on his long journey back to fitness, noting that it was a huge psychological battle.

“It was a difficult period for me, it’s very hard watching from the sidelines, but it took a lot of mental strength to beat the injury.

“My wish was to be back on the pitch running and that is what kept me focused.”

The Gweru side are top of the log standings with 10 points from four matches, they face Shabanie Mine at Ascot stadium on Sunday.

Watson downplayed the airmen’s chances of returning to the top flight.

“At the moment we can’t say we are going to get promoted, but that is our wish, we just have to keep working hard as a team and see where that takes us,” added Watson.
