FORMER premiership side, Chapungu assumed pole position in the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League after a 4-0 win against ZRP Gwanda on Sunday.
The Air force of Zimbabwe side were ruthless in front of goal, underlying their title credentials.
A brace from Edward Watson and a goal a piece from Believe Mudzangwe and Divine Sibanda sealed victory for the Gweru side.
The result saw Chapungu move to the top of the log standings with seven points from three matches.
Chapungu assistant coach, Moenda Muchingami said despite the good result, they are keeping their eyes on the prize.
“At the moment it is too early to be looking at the log standings,” he said after the match.
“It is still a long way to go, this is a marathon race but we are glad we have made a good start.
“All we have to do is maintain our good form and keep working hard until the end.”
Waru Waru have the same number of points with second placed Shabanie Mine who drew 1-1 at home to Blanket Mine.
However, the Gweru side have a superior goal difference as they are yet to concede.
Elsewhere, Gwanda Pirates got their first win of the season when they humbled favourites Kwekwe United 1-0 at Baghdad stadium in Kwekwe.
The Johannes Ngodzo coached side had registered two draws in their opening two matches.
But for Kwekwe United it was a rude awakening and a stark reminder that carrying the favourites tag comes with a lot of pressure.
In other results, Grain Tigers trounced Matobo in their own backyard by 3-0 as they assumed third place on the standings.
Fourth placed Sabi Gold Mine got the better of Vhembe FC winning 2-1 at home.
