Bulawayo Chiefs assistant coach, Agent Saw was on Sunday arrested for allegedly assaulting a match official after his side’s 1-0 loss to Hardrock in a Chibuku Super Cup first round tie at Chahwanda stadium.
Hardrock won the match courtesy of a 40th minute Tinotenda Muringai penalty.
After the match, Bulawayo Chiefs players and officials mobbed the match officials team of Lawrence Zimondi and his two assistant referees, Luckson Mhara and Victor Kambadzo.
Mhara made a report alleging that Sawu assaulted him during the scuffle at full time.
Bulawayo Chiefs had to wait for nearly an hour before departing as police details and officials from both clubs were engaged in negotiations.
However, after the lengthy deliberations, Sawu was seen boarding the Bulawayo Chiefs vehicle accompanied by police details.
It is reported that he was taken to Kwekwe Central police station.
This is the latest episode of protests against poor officiating in the local game.
Last week, Norton Big Boys coach, Rodrick Mutuma was apoplectic and tore into the match officials after his side lost 3-1 to FC Hunters at Ngoni stadium.
Bulawayo Chiefs coach, John Nyikadzino tried to play down his players’ behaviour.
“Emotions run high, that is why i was there to try and cool down the tempers,” he said.
“Fortunately nothing happened, it is part of football, we are sports people, the referees need us and we need them.”
