FOOTBALL administrators have been implored to be conversant with the laws of the game in order to ensure the smooth development of the sport in the country.

The call was made by ZIFA executive member Professor Thomas Marambanyika during the official opening of the ZIFA Administrators and Management course in Gweru on Tuesday.

He urged administrators to rise above fan hood and invest in becoming knowledgeable about the laws of the game.

“The danger is when people are not trained or capacitated, they tend to rely on traditional knowledge and hearsay,” Prof Marambanyika said.

“This does not do good to our institutions but when they are capacitated, they are supposed to influence the direction with which things are supposed to move.”

The five day course will end on Friday and will cover critical areas such as finance, communication, good governance, planning, and refereeing among other areas.

Some prominent football administrators participating include Central Region chairperson, Patrick Hill, TelOne secretary Artwell Manyudza as well as club media officer Sindiso Dube.

Former Sheasham football club CEO, Sibo Zikhali and Hardrock CEO Tendai Alimenda are also in attendance.

Veteran football administrator and former FIFA development officer Archford Mamelodi is part of the proceedings.

“To the best of my knowledge this is the first program to be held nationally,” he noted.

“The last one which had the current vice president Kenny Ndebele, was done regionally.

“But ZIFA was deliberate and intentional about this program which started in phases with the first phase having 35 participants.”
