ARE we ever going to get to that stage where everyone needs their calculator in the Central Region Soccer League promotion race?
Well for Kwekwe United and Chapungu, the answer is yes.
These are the two teams that trail log leaders Blanket Mine in the promotion race.
Blanket Mine have what looks like a healthy five points lead ahead of second placed Kwekwe United.
Chapungu are seven points behind in this enthralling race for promotion.
On paper it appears the Gwanda side are going to get the job done with ease.
Still unbeaten after 24 matches, Luke Petros-Jukulile and his charges are not just cruising, they are flying.
But in football, a lot can change in 90 minutes, yet there are 10 matches to play.
And Kwekwe United and Chapungu have declared war.
“If you look at it we have not been scoring in the past three games, we have struggled in front of goals,”Kwekwe United coach, Tendai Chikuni said after the goalless draw against Chapungu on Saturday.
“There are still plenty of games to play, we will keep fighting, next we travel to Matobo and we just have to keep the pressure on.”
Chapungu too, are determined to return to the big league, seven years after their relegation.
Assistant coach Moenda Muchingami, who was part of the 2019 squad that got relegated is very hopeful.
It is home land or death for the soldiers.
“The race is still very much on, come end of the season,we will be promoted,” said the former midfield hard man.
“What we need to do is to win all our remaining games starting with the game in mid week and the rest will take care of itself.”
In matches slated for mid-week, on Wednesday, Blanket Mine are at home to fourth placed West Nicholson at Sabiwa stadium.
Kwekwe United makes the long trip to Maphisa for a date against basement side Matobo on Thursday.
Chapungu face tricky Good Morning under the scorching heat of Zhombe.
