TELONE FC winger, Blessing Sahondo was on Saturday crowned as the Soccer Star of the year in the Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League at an event held at a local hotel in Shurugwi.

The pint sized attacker was instrumental for the WiFi boys winning promotion into the Premier Soccer League (PSL), scoring 11 goals for the Gweru based outfit.

He was recently voted as the Telone player of the year.

Tongogara’s Simon Shanga was the first runner up while Sahondo’s teammate Blessing Sibanda was the second runner up.

The hard running striker walked away with the top goal scorer accolade after he scored 12 goals in the past season.

Another Telone player Prince Phiri was voted as the best goalkeeper after he kept 13 clean sheets.

Army side, Tongogara gaffer, Calvin Maphosa emerged as the coach of the year. He was delighted for being recognized for his hard work.

“It has been a long journey for me in coaching and it’s the first time to be rewarded like this. I hope this award will push me to greater heights in the coming seasons,” he said.

Voting for the eleven best players was done by journalists and coaches.
