ARMY side Tongogara kept the pressure on log leaders, Telone fc with an impressive 2-0 win over former premiership side Chapungu over the weekend in the Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League.
Despite the victory, Tongogara are still six points adrift of the log leaders as the race for promotion into the Premier Soccer League (PSL) hots up.
Gweru based Telone were awarded three points for their match against CM Academy following the suspension of their opponents from the league.
Tongogara are now on 46 points while the WiFi boys are on 52 points and need seven points from the remaining four matches to clinch promotion.
The loss to Tongogara means Chapungu drop to fourth place with 40 points with ZPC Munyati in third on 42 points after beating Blanket mine 3-0.
Shabanie mine got the better of FC Platinum Under 19 in the Zvishavane derby. Kwekwe United edged Bishopstone 1-0.
Meanwhile, the league’s leadership has advised that the last four matches of the season will kick off at the same time in a move meant to promote fair play.
Central Region deputy chairperson Dr Thomas Marambanyika said the move was merely an implementation of resolutions made by the clubs.
“Our congress at the EGM resolved that the last five games be played on same day and time,” he said.
