WEST Nicholson are slowly emerging as the Central Region Soccer League surprise package of the season.

The Matabeleland South based side moved to second position on the log standings after a convincing 2-0 against MSU at the Campus Grounds.

A brace from Tinashe Chigandiwa secured all the three points for West Nicholson.

They are now on 10 points, same as log leaders Chapungu, but have an inferior goal difference.

West Nicholson have assembled a strong squad that boasts of experienced players such as Leo Hofisi.

Elsewhere, Kwekwe United’s indifferent start to the season took another turn when they settled for a 0-0 stalemate against Shabanie Mine at Maglas stadium.

It was a bad outing for Kwekwe who had veteran defender, Patson Jaure sent off late in the second half.

The former premiership side are now three points behind the leaders in sixth place while Shabanie are in third place with eight points.

The Chinda Boys will travel to Gweru on Sunday to face log leaders Chapungu in a potentially explosive encounter.

Meanwhile, the match between Blanket Mine and FC Platinum U19 was postponed to next week due to heavy rains.

The heavy rains that pounded Gwanda rendered the Mtshabezi river impassable forcing league authorities to push the match to 29 April.

“Kindly be advised that the league fixture between Blanket Mine FC and FC Platinum U19, originally scheduled for Wednesday, 22 April 2026 at Sabiwa Stadium, has been rescheduled,” reads a letter from the Central Region.

“The match will now be played on 29 April 2026 at the same venue and kick-off time.

“This decision follows heavy rains that have resulted in the flooding of the Mtshabezi River, making travel and match conditions unsafe.”
