THE race for promotion in the Central Region Soccer League is beginning to take shape as title favourites are showing intent.

Chapungu sit perfectly at the top of the log standings after four matches with 10 points from four matches.

Pre-season favourites, Kwekwe United travel to face Shabanie Mine in a winner takes all encounter at Maglas stadium this afternoon.

They are fully aware of the consequences of further slip ups having already lost to Gwanda Pirates two weeks ago.

Kwekwe trail Chapungu by four points which makes this afternoon’s clash more explosive.

But Kwekwe United coach, Tendai Chikuni is not bothered by their position on the log at this stage of the season.

Instead he is concerned about putting assured performances that can lay the foundation for the rest of the season.

“Playing Shabanie in their own backyard is never easy, ” he told The Echo Sports.

“We have to be at our best, particularly that they are currently on song. What we need to do is go there with belief.

“The season is still young and we are not concerned about the position on the log, this is a marathon. All we need to do is to put performances that ensure we stay within reach of the leaders.”

The Kwekwe side are yet to get in their groove this season, they will turn to veteran Donald Ngoma for inspiration.

In other matches, Luke Petros’ Blanket Mine are at home to FC Platinum U19 at Sabiwa stadium.

Supper Strikers hosts Dulibadzimu United at Phelandaba Stadium to complete the rescheduled match day four fixtures.

On Thursday, Sabi Gold Mine and Gwanda Pirates will meet again to complete the remaining minutes of their abandoned match.

The match was abandoned in the 72nd minute with both teams deadlocked nil all.

In a match played on Tuesday, ZRP Gwanda and Shurugwi FC settled for a 1-1 draw.
