EXPERIENCED goalkeeper, Takabva Mawaya has rediscovered himself at Central Region Soccer League side, Hardrock, where he has been outstanding in goals.

It is still early days yet in the league but the veteran goal minder is having a time of his life between the sticks.

With four clean sheets in four matches, the 32 year old has become the bedrock on which Hardrock are hoping to build their campaign this season.

The former Harare City and Ngezi Platinum Stars goal keeper has become a vital cog in the Calvin Maphosa coached outfit.

With 10 points on the board, they currently trail log leaders Sheasham by two points.

And Mawaya attributes his good form to hard work and persistence.

“The secret to the good start to the season is through hard work,” he intimated to The Echo Sports.

“I feel very happy keeping clean sheets, my target is keeping at least 15 clean sheets this season.”

The ambitious Kwekwe side are one of the firm favorites for promotion this season.

This, after going for broke, roping in several experienced players to bolster their squad.

He is one of the players, the club will count on, to play a crucial role in securing a berth in the top flight for next season.

Mawaya, who grew up in Kwekwe, opines that playing in front of his hometown fans has given him extra motivation.

“What motivates me is that Hardrock is my home town team,”he added.

“I get a lot of support from around, everywhere I go, I meet people and they give me positive feedback.

“That belief and motivation from locals gives me the energy to deliver better performances.”

This weekend, Hardrock will be hoping to return to winning ways when they travel to Zvishavane to face Shabanie Mine.

Last Saturday the Kwekwe based side were held to a goalless draw by a stubborn Dinson Mvuma at Baghdad stadium.
