TELONE fought back from a goal down in the first half to beat Arenel Movers 2-1 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Luveve stadium to hand coach Hebert Maruwa his first victory since taking over last month.
The WiFi boys had gone for 10 straight matches without a win and the downward spiral appeared to be unrelenting when they went behind in the opening stages of the match after defender Eriya Mafirenyika turned the ball into his own net.
But a polished performance in the second half coupled with goals from substitute Lloyd Gwerina and Mafirenyika ensured the Gweru based side pocketed maximum points.
Maruwa was delighted by the victory but was quick to point out that there is still a lot of work to be done.
“It is a good result, we did not play well in the first half although we managed to collect three points but we need to quickly forget about this one and focus on the next one against FC Platinum,” he said.
“In the second half we just switched on and started to play wing play and that’s how we managed to penetrate them.”
The win moves Telone out of the relegation zone up to 14th place on the standings with 16 points, a point above Yadah who play tomorrow.
Despite the comeback, Maruwa reckons his charges need to work on their concentration and avoid conceding first. Last week the WiFi boys had to fight back to force a one all draw at home against Caps United.
“In terms of our fighting spirit we are okay but at the same time, we are having problems with concentration, the players are losing concentration in critical areas and we need to correct that,” Maruwa pointed out.
