THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), reports that a total of 64 749 traffic offenders have been arrested so far during the ongoing “Tame the Traffic Jungle” operation.

The operation began early last month and was supposed to run for two weeks but was indefinitely extended last week.

In a statement on Tuesday, the ZRP said, “A total of 64 749 arrests have been effected during the on-going operation, “Tame the Traffic Jungle”. 1 731 arrests have been made on vehicles without route permits while 20 530 arrests have been made on illegal pirate taxis (mushikashika).”

Police also added that 378 motorists have been arrested for reckless driving while a total of 4654 people have been arrested for touting, with 1345 cars impounded for not having registration plates.
