A 42 year old Esigodini man has been slapped with an effective 20 year jail term for raping a minor.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the survivor, committed the offence in December.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) the girl’s mother left the offender together with the girl in the same bedroom.
The girl was reportedly asleep, when she returned after an hour she found the offender naked with the victim.
He apologized and promised to buy a bed for the girl’s mother and she agreed to conceal the matter.
However, luck ran out for the man on December 24 when the woman discovered that he was having a love affair with another woman.
This led to the report of the matter and subsequent arrest of the offender.
The NPAZ urged communities to take a strong stance against pedophiles.
“The NPAZ reiterates its stance that pedophiles have no place in our society. Communities are urged to work together to protect children from deviant characters like the offender.”
In a related case, a 25 year old man from Gwanda was sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a 13 year old girl.
It is alleged that on November 7, 2025 the girl was playing at their homestead together with her seven year old brother.
The offender then asked the two to accompany him to his place.
Along the way he sent back the brother to tend the goats before pulling the girl into a bushy area and forced himself on the girl.
The matter came to light when the girl narrated her ordeal to the mother who reported the matter to the police.
