PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday hosted the National rugby team (Sables) at State House, where he congratulated the team for qualifying for the Rugby World Cup 2027.
The Sables lifted the Rugby Africa Men’s Cup at Mandela National Stadium in Uganda earning a spot at the men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia.
This will be Zimbabwe’s third appearance at Rugby’s biggest showcase ending a 34 year absence.
“I extend my congratulations to you our players, coaches, technical staff and the entire Zimbabwe Rugby family for this historic feat,” said the President.
“You have written a golden chapter in our sporting history. Makorokoto, Amhlope.
“The 2025 Africa Cup campaign marked the high point and turning point of your successful journey, you displayed consistency and excellency.”
He added:
“As was demonstrated during the recent victory parade, sport has a unique power to ignite our progressive national character trait and reminded us of the shared destiny we hold as one people.”

President Mnangagwa also presented tokens of appreciation to the team, he applauded the corporate world for rendering support to the national team.
He urged more corporates to come aboard as the team gears to make a mark at the World Cup in 2027.
“Equally, I applaud our corporate partners who have chosen to be part of this success story,” he said.
“Your investment in Rugby is not only an investment in sport but in the spirit and identity of Zimbabwe.
“I urge more institutions to stand with our team as we participate at the world stage.”
