TELONE coach Hebert Maruwa claims his side is firmly in the title race after a 1-0 victory over Dynamos at Ascot stadium on Saturday.
It was a sweet victory for Maruwa as he punished his former side for their poor finishing.
Dynamos had a solid start to the match unfortunately putting to waste several chances in the first half.
But it was Maruwa’s charges, who broke the dreadlock in the 56th minute with Washington Navaya nodding home Prince Milanzi’s curling cross.
The goal put Navaya’s tally for the season to 11 goals and sets him apart from MWOS’ Billy Veremu who is a goal shy.
TelOne showed a great deal of composure and character to repel Dembare’s early onslaught.
The victory puts the Wifi boys into third place with 33 points from 20 matches, seven behind leaders Simba Bhora.
“I think for now, we are now challenging for the championship, after this win we are challenging for the championship, it is a declaration,” Maruwa stated.

Maruwa once coached Dembare at the beginning of last season, before being fired mid way through the season.
He stated that he was playing to prove a point but still wishes his former paymasters well.
“It was a must win for me, we got the points, I hope they survive but not against us, maybe against other teams but I wish them to survive,” he added.
Dynamos coach Saul Chaminuka is adamant that the former league champions will not be relegated.
He insists there is plenty of time to save the once glamorous side, although, performances are telling a different story.
“I think we have 14 games and that’s about 42 points,” Chaminuka noted.
“We will not go down, we are losing, but we have about 10 teams in and around us,” he added.
“It’s a question of winning one or two games on the trot,”
Simba Bhora back on top
Defending champions Simba Bhora came from behind to beat Herentals 3-2 at home, to get back to the top of the log.
The Shamva side are now on 40 points, same as MWOS who lost 1-0 to Yadah, but have a superior goal difference.

FC Platinum continued with their resurgence after a 1-0 win over Chicken Inn at Mandava stadium.
Malawian import, Nixon Nyasulu scored the solitary goal from the penalty spot in the second half.
