ZIMBABWEAN Karatekas delivered a sublime performance at the Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth games in Namibia winning eight medals.

This was the first time karate was included at the AUSC Region 5 Youth games.

The country managed to send a team of eight karatekas, coached by Victor Bunu and Hazel Chirima.

They did not disappoint, bringing back home eight medals.

In the Kata division, Zimbabwe picked four bronze medals as well as two bronze medals in the Kumite category.

Additionally,they also bagged two silver medals in the same division.

“It was karate’s first inclusion in the games,we had a very strong team that managed to win eight medals,”Bunu told The Echo Sports.

“The competition was of international standard and we managed to be on the podium in every category.

Bunu added that this success should be used as a springboard for future tournaments.

“Zimbabwe proved to be a karate regional powerhouse,” he added.

“We have set our sights on conquering Africa and the world at large in forthcoming competitions.”
