ZIFA Central Region Soccer League side, Chapungu coach Tawanda Marimo has died.
Marimo died on Monday at Gweru General Hospital where he was admitted with an undisclosed ailment.
Chapungu spokesperson Kennedy Khombo confirmed the death of Marimo.
“It is with deep sorrow that I confirm the untimely passing of Chapungu FC Head Coach,Tawanda Marimo, who died at Gweru General Hospital following a short illness,” said Khombo.
“Everyone at Chapungu FC is devastated by this heartbreaking loss. Coach Marimo was not only a tactician but also a mentor, leader, and pillar of strength within the Waru Waru family.”
Marimo was one of the club’s most loyal servants, serving the club in different capacities, from player, assistant coach, team manager until he assumed the post of head coach.
During his playing days, he played alongside the likes of Cain and Abel Muteji, Phillip Marufu, Brian Nhamo, Wellington Shangiwa.
Some of the players who featured alongside Marimo include Innocent Chogugudza, and 2001 soccer star of the year Maxwell Dube.
Meanwhile, the Central Region Soccer League(CRSL) has postponed the mid week fixture between Hardrock and Chapungu scheduled for Wednesday.
“In respect for Tawanda Marimo and the Chapungu FC family the scheduled fixture has been postponed to allow the club time to grieve and pay their respect to a coach who undoubtedly made a lasting impact on their lives.
“Please join us in extending our deepest condolences to Chapungu FC and the entire football community. May we all come together to support each other during this challenging period,” the CRSL said.
