GWANDA Pirates coach, Johannes Ngodzo has attributed his side’s good start to the season to the experience of veterans such as Danny Phiri.

The ZIFA Central Region Soccer League new boys have have fared significantly fairly in their debut season.

They currently sit third on the log standings with 16 points from nine matches, nine behind the leaders.

Ngodzo feels the good start his side can be attributed to the experience of Phiri giving guidance to the youngsters in the side.

The 2015 Soccer Star of the year, is one of the most experienced players in the Gwanda based outfit.

Striker, Newman Sianchali is another of the experienced players in Ngodzo’s squad.

The midfielder has vast experience having played for Chicken Inn as well as Bulawayo Chiefs.

“In this league you need some experienced players who have played everywhere, here in Zimbabwe and abroad,” Ngodzo said.

Gwanda Pirates gave a good account of themselves against Sheasham on Wednesday before eventually losing 1-0.

And the Pirates gaffer hailed Phiri’s contribution describing him as an ‘on field coach.’

“He will be like a coach during matches, controlling things on the field in our team,” added the former Highlanders midfielder.

Match day nine concludes on Thursday with second placed Hardrock traveling to Zvishavane to face Jame West at Maglas stadium.
