TELONE picked their first away win of the season with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Kwekwe United at Bata stadium on Saturday.

The league’s top goal scorer, Washington Navaya scored his ninth goal of the season late in the match.

However, referee Pride Moyo’s decision not to award Kwekwe United a penalty two minutes before Navaya’s goal may be the only blemish of the match.

The Gold boys will feel hard done after Moyo ignored penalty appeals after TelOne goalkeeper, Criss Mverechena fouled a Kwekwe United forward inside the box.

To add salt to injury, TelOne surged ahead moments after the incident.

Kwekwe United stand in coach Beknown Mhlaingena said the match officials were the difference in this Midlands derby.

“It’s tough, it’s tough, we should have gotten a point from this match,” decried Mhlaingena.

“At least you saw what happened in the box, the keeper was beaten, and the striker was headed for goal but was tripped.

“It was an obvious penalty but the referee did not give it, he saw it otherwise, it’s so painful.”

“We were robbed”

Mhlaingena was not holding back, adding:

“The referee was just supposed to point to the spot, he robbed us of our win.

“It drained us, the players were psychologically affected because they expected to be given a penalty.”

But for TelOne, it was their first away win of the season, and first in three matches.

TelOne coach, Hebert Maruwa was happy that his team is back on winning terms.

“This match was going to be tough after the Yadah match, but we psyched the boys and I’m happy with the three points,” he said.

“We have to keep working hard and stay close to the leading teams.”
