Castle Lager Premier Soccer League reigning champions Simba Bhora moved to the top of the log courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Kwekwe United at Bata stadium on Wednesday.

They will at least stay at the top overnight as they are joint on 18 points with second placed MWOS who play on Thursday.

Simba Bhora had to sweat to come out of Bata stadium with maximum points.

The Shamva based outfit required Trevor Mavhunga’s last minute goal to secure the victory.

The gangly midfielder scrambled the winner home in additional time after the hosts failed to clear their lines following a corner kick.

Never Tigere had earlier given Simba Bhora the lead in the first half via a delightful set piece.

But substitute, Mbongeni Minezhi restored parity for Kwekwe United midway in the second half.

Simba Bhora coach, Joel Luphahla felt that his charges were stretched by the new boys.

He admitted that Kwekwe United gave them a good run and his side was lucky to pocket maximum points.

“When we came here we knew what we were going to face, a difficult team,” said Luphahla.

“People do not give Kwekwe the credit, they play good football, we watched them when they played Dynamos.

“Mentally we were prepared to play even up to the 95th minute and that is what happened, we eventually found the goal.”

Luphahla however, bemoaned his side’s poor finishing.

Simba Bhora were guilty of fluffing numerous goal scoring opportunities especially in the first half.

“It’s a game we could have easily won in the first half but we wasted a lot of chances in the first half,” he said.

Kwekwe United coach Saul Chaminuka was livid at the referee, Grace Gimo.

He accused the match official of aiding Simba Bhora to secure the victory.

“I fail to understand where we are going wrong because certain people have to make decisions on who wins and who doesn’t,” decried Chaminuka .

“It’s not good for football,” he added, “The match could have ended one all with a bit of luck we could have won.”
