ASPIRING ZIFA presidential candidate, Nqobile Magwizi believes there is a lot of work to do around rebranding the association to make it appealing.
He feels in order to turn around things at 53 Livingston avenue, much effort needs to be put in sanitizing the Zifa brand.
This, Magwizi said, if elected to lead the local game, would be his main priority.
Magwizi is one of the few presidential hopefuls who have already submitted their papers for the country’s top football post.
Others who have filed their papers are Farai Jere, Philemon Machana,Martin Kweza and Marshall Gore.
The elections are scheduled to take place on January 25 next year.
Recently, Magwizi was in Gweru where he met with ZIFA councillors from the central region.
He opines that there is a lot of potential in the local game and partners are waiting in the wings to come in.
However, he feels, if elected into office, the association’s brand requires a make over in order to be sellable.
What Magwizi said:
“There is a perception out there in the market in respect to the state of affairs at ZIFA,”Magwizi said.
“The critical issue is to fix the brand and ensure that the stakeholders have confidence in what ZIFA promises.
“We have to make sure that there is proper governance, we have to put structures.”
He added: “We have to make sure there is an institution that is solid, that will live beyond our time.
“Once we have a solid institution, everything will fall into place, people will be willing to partner with the brand.
“It’s about putting the institution first ahead of the individuals, it’s not about Magwizi or whoever, it’s about building an institution.”
The nomination process for the ZIFA elections is closing today.
The names of successful candidates will be announced on December 23.
