TELONE took a giant leap in their relegation escape with a 1-0 victory over Ngezi Platinum Stars at Ascot stadium on Saturday.
Goalkeeper, Criss Mverechena’s well taken penalty right at the death was the difference between the two sides.
The WiFi boys made it three wins in a row and are closer to preserving their place in the league for next season.
They are in 11th position on the log standings with 35 points, four points above Bikita Minerals who occupy the last safety spot.
TelOne coach, Hebert Maruwa hailed his players for fighting hard to escape relegation.
He however, feels they need to do more in the remaining matches.
“I’m happy with the response from the boys. It’s still game on,”he said.
“We have to keep on getting the desired results for us to survive.
“Now we need to remain focused and make sure that we keep collecting maximum points.It’s three out of three for us.”
Ngezi Platinum Stars coach,Takesure Chiragwi was disappointed by the loss but attributed the defeat to poor officiating.
“We are in a bad situation because every week we are getting a red card,” said Chiragwi.
“If you look at those red cards, i think they are questionable. Its painful and it hurts.
“This is one of the most difficult games that we have played, we just need to be strong and move forward.
The loss effectively dashed Ngezi’s hopes of retaining the title as they are now 17 points behind leaders Simba Bhora.

The Shamva side extended their lead at the apex of the log with a 1-0 win over Chicken Inn.
At the Heart stadium, Yadah beat troubled Arenel Movers 5-3 while Green Fuel and Manica Diamonds settled for a 1-1 draw.
Bulawayo Chiefs moved out of the relegation zone after a goalless draw with Herentals.
