TAEKWONDO athlete, Admire Tshitshiliza is in Muju,South Korea for a month long master’s training program for coaches.

The 31 year old who has represented Zimbabwe at various tournaments is using the training to sharpen his coaching skills.

He is hopeful the program will equip him with the necessary knowledge to be a better coach.

The 2024 Global taekwondo master’s program meant for senior black belt holders started on 27 September and will run until 23 October.

Currently, the Gweru based athlete and coach is in charge of the taekwondo junior national team.

He believes the experience he is getting will go a long way in shaping his coaching career and development of the sport in the country.

“This is a big step in my personal life and the future of taekwondo in the country,” he told The Echo Sports.

“From being a top athlete for many years in the Zimbabwe national team to now junior national team coach.”

Tshitshiliza is one of the two athletes from Southern Africa attending the program, together with another from Eswatini.

He says this is testament of the national association’s faith in his potential.

“To be now a master, it shows that the national association believes in my abilities as an athlete and coach,” Tshitshiliza added.

The Global Taekwondo Master’s Training Program is a 160-hour program that focuses on a number of areas.

The program places emphasis on four themes: taekwondo theory, taekwondo practical technique training, culture experience and special lecture.

The program is hosted by the World Taekwondo Academy (WTA) and is designed for promising coaches and athletes.

The coaches are drawn from developing countries and expected to develop the sport in their native countries after the training.
