MIDLANDS Christian College (MCC) emerged victorious at the Annual Watershed college T20 cricket festival held over the weekend.

MCC displayed a superb bowling show in the final to beat Peterhouse by five wickets.

Peterhouse had posted 137/5, the Gweru side chased down the target reaching 139/5 with five balls to spare.

Chikomborero Wenga inspired the chase with an exquisite knock of 33 off 27 balls to lead MCC to victory.

MCC coach, Joshua Mawire was full of praise for his charges’ performance throughout the tournament.

“I am so grateful to God for such an achievement as a team,” he said.

“It has been a great journey for us, every player managed to kick in and played their A-game.

“Coming into this tournament we knew bowling was our strength, we believed and the boys applied themselves.

“The final against Peterhouse, the boys were composed dug deep to have a strong come back.”

Off break bowler Panashe Chimini and seamer Tadiwa Ndlovu produced top individual performances with the ball.

The two bowlers were instrumental in the team’s success with a haul of seven wickets each.

Batsman, Wenga was outstanding with the bat scoring 114 run throughout the tournament.

Mawire paid tribute to the the strong support structure at the school that gave their all.

“I would like to the thank the team manager Mr Ndoro, school Principal, Director Pastor Psawarai and the whole MCGS family and parents that also supported us through out,” Mawire said.
