SIMBA Bhora coach Tonderai Ndiraya hailed his players’ character after watching his side come from a goal down to claim a 2-1 victory over TelOne at Ascot stadium.
The win puts the Shamva based side in the driving seat in the title race with 53 points.
They now have a seven point advantage over FC Platinum in the race for the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title.
FC Platinum are in second place with 46 points after losing 1-0 to Manica Diamonds on Saturday.
Ndiraya praised his charges after masterminding a comeback at Ascot stadium.
The visitors suffered an early set back when Blessing Sibanda thrust the WiFi boys ahead after 20 minutes.
Simba Bhora responded in style with midfielder Mthokozisi Msebe scoring twice either side of the break.
NDIRAYA SPEAKS ON PLAYERS’ CHARACTER
Ndiraya was impressed by his players’ character in how they responded to the set back.
“It was a difficult match, we knew it would be like that because of the coach at TelOne,” he said.
“Herbert (Maruwa) is known for producing tough sides and this here is a tough side that we played.
“What I like most about my team is the response to everything that was thrown at us.”
He added: ” It was about avoiding falling in the hands of TelOne which I felt we did in the first half.
“But we managed to control the game, showed character by responding soon after we conceded.”
TelOne coach, Hebert Maruwa conceded defeat admitting they lost to a superior side.
He however, remains optimistic that the WiFi boys will survive the chop.
“I am impressed in overall given that we were playing the log leaders, the boys did well,” he said.
“We took an early lead, unfortunately failed to clear out lines, we now have to focus on the remaining games.”
OTHER RESULTS
Elsewhere, Caps United came from two goals down to claim a 3-2 win over Highlanders.
Chicken Inn were held to a goalless draw by Yadah at Luveve while Bikita Minerals and ZPC Kariba settled for a nil all draw.
In a relegation battle, Chegutu Pirates and Bulawayo Chiefs shared the spoils in a one all draw.
