A referee in the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League, briefly stopped play and asked for the police to take his son to safety as he feared for his life after a series of bad decisions during the match.

The referee,Tawanda Mashindi was in charge of a top of the table clash between Sheasham and Chapungu at Bata stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

And after a series of dubious decisions, Mashindi felt that his son(around six years), who was in the stands could face retribution from the fans.

Mashindi had early in the second half denied Chapungu what appeared a penalty after Sheasham defender Nyasha Mpofu cleared the ball with his hand while inside the penalty box.

But to the surprise of many at Bata stadium, Mashindi waved play on. This resulted in a brief stoppage as Chapungu players and officials protested.

And when play resumed, the referee intimated to one of the players that he was fearing for the safety of his son.

He then stopped play and asked the police to take the child to safety. The little boy was escorted by the police to the VVIP enclosure.

The match eventually ended nil all but many in attendance felt the match officials of Mashindi, his two assistants, Major Mususa and John Tanyanyiwa spoiled the match.
