FORMER Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Chapungu kept their promotion aspirations alive with a nervy 1-0 win over Dulibadzimu on Saturday.
Veteran striker, Allan Tavarwisa scored the solitary goal in added time to secure three points for the airmen.
It was a peach of a goal, struck from outside of the penalty box to undo a resolute Dulibadzimu.
Victory for Chapungu means they have cut the gap between themselves and log leaders Kwekwe United to seven points.
Waru Waru have two games in hand, making the race for promotion in the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League interesting.
Chapungu coach, Tawanda Marimo played down his side’s chances of catching up with the log leaders.
“At the moment we are not thinking about promotion, we are still far,” he said.
“Kwekwe United were leading by nine points before this match so we are just focusing on winning our matches.”
The former Chapungu defender praised his technical department for the hard work and unity.
The Gweru side are currently on a 12 match unbeaten run in the league this season.
“We always give everyone a chance to give their input for the betterment of the team,” Marimo said.
“So the changes we made were a culmination of all our input and the desire to get the results for the team.”
OTHER RESULTS
In other results, the top of the table clash between Tongogara and Kwekwe United ended in a goalless draw.
The Gold boys remains top of the log standings with 46 points while Tongogara are second on 43.
Sheasham climbed to fourth on the log standings with a 1-0 win over Wangu Mazodze City at Baghdad stadium.
Blessing Munana’s goal in the second half was enough to give coach Lizwe Sweswe a temporary relief.
The construction boys are now on 36 points and trail the leaders by 10 points.
MSU remembered how to win with a 3-2 win over Gokwe North fc at the Campus grounds.
