KWEKWE United consolidated their position at the top of the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League over the weekend.

The Gold boys got the better of Max Ruza’s Blanket Mine, winning 2-1 at the Ziscosteel club on Saturday.

In-form David Chipo and Tinashe Mashaireni were on target for the log leaders.

The victory out their points tally to 45, three more than second placed Tongogara who trounced West Nicholson 3-0.

Kwekwe United coach, Prince Matore was happy with the victory but added there is no time to rest for his side.

“It was a difficult game for us, we knew Blanket would come hard at us,” he said.

“I am happy we contained them and managed to create chances and eventually score two goals to win the match.

“Now we have to work very hard because every team that we play against will be making it difficult for us.”

The win gives Kwekwe some breathing space ahead of their top of the table clash against Tongogara on Saturday.

Thr two teams clash at the Battlefields grounds in what could potentially be a title decider.

RESULTS FROM OTHER MATCHES

In other matches, Chapungu’s promotion hopes suffered a blow when they were held 0-0 by Dinson Mvuma.

Fourth placed Dulibadzimu managed to get a point on the road in a nil all stalemate away to Wangu Mazodze City.

The Beitbridge side’s chances of catching up with the leaders dwindled as they are now nine points adrift of Kwekwe United.

Sheasham fell further behind in the race after a one all draw against ZRP Gwanda.

The construction boys remain in fifth place, 12 points behind the log leaders.
