FORMER premiership side Sheasham appear to be feeling the heat in the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League.

The club was touted as one of the pre season favourites for promotion back into the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

However, things have not gone according to plan for the Lizwe Sweswe coached outfit who have fallen behind the leading pack.

They find themselves 10 points behind leaders Kwekwe United with just over 10 matches to go.

The Construction boys are fifth on the log standings with 32 points and appear to have thrown in the towel in the race for promotion.

The team’s inconsistent performances has caused ructions amongst the supporters with most growing disillusioned.

Some feel the Sweswe led technical department does not have what it takes to move the team forward.

But in a bid to douse the flames,a grouping of the team’s supporters on Thursday gathered at Bata Stadium to offer support to Sweswe.

The grouping under the banner of Sheasham Supporters Association(SSA) met with the technical department and executive.

Among other things discussed was to assure Sweswe that regardless of the results, the supporters were still behind his technical department.

WHAT THE SUPPORTERS SAID

“I want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your hard work and dedication,” SSA chairperson Anthony Hapanyengwi told the club’s media.

“Every season brings its challenges, and while the results may not always reflect the effort put in, I believe in your vision and leadership.”

However, this publication has it on good authority that the coach is feeling the pressure.

At the beginning of the season, Sweswe made an overhaul of the squad bringing in a completely new team.

He took along with him several players whom he worked with at Bulawayo Chiefs.

Unfortunately, the players have not repaid the trust he had in them leaving supporters to question the coach’s judgement.

This has created fissures amongst the club’s faithfuls and other stakeholders who feel let down.

Sheasham’s season has been haram scarum at best and they look set to miss out on promotion to the PSL.

The Gweru side will host ZRP Gwanda at Bata stadium on Saturday hoping to breathe life into their stuttering campaign.
