FC PLATINUM assumed pole position on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log with a comfortable 3-1 win over Arenel Movers.
This was a perfect response from the Norman Mapeza coached side after losing 1-0 to Caps United last weekend.
Arenel Movers took a first half lead through Polite Mwenda albeit, in controversial circumstances.
Mwenda appeared to have used his hands in making contact with the ball.
But, that did not deflate the miners as Mbongeni Ndlovu equalized for the Zvishavane side moments before the breather.
In form midfielder, Juan Mutudza gave FC Platinum the lead in the second half before Jarrison Selemani put the icing on the cake with a late goal.
The victory for FC Platinum means they regain top spot with 45 points, a point more than Simba Bhora.
The Shamva based outfit drew one all against Dynamos at Babourfields stadium in Bulawayo.
MAPEZA HAILS PLAYERS’ ATTITUDE
Mapeza praised his charges’ resilience after going a goal down in the first half.
“Massive game for us, after conceding first, I mean it was their only chance in the entire match,” Mapeza said.
“It’s all about character after we conceded in such a way, it takes away the energy from the players
I said to the players let us not argue with the referee, let’s get on with it otherwise we will lose.”
The former warriors gaffer felt his side needed to respond after the loss last week, in order to remain in the race for the title.
Mapeza was also delighted with how his team is now creating goal scoring opportunities aplenty.
“After our loss to Caps United in Harare we really needed to respond. I think the guys did well,” he added.
“It could have been more than three we had so many opportunities which is a positive thing.”
Arenel Movers coach Philani Ncube sounded resigned to relegation despite trying to put up a brave face.
“We knew that when coming here that we were going to lose but didn’t know by what margin,” Ncube said.
“Of course we have to keep fighting, if we are going to be relegated we have to be relegated on the last day.”
