TONGOGARA coach, Calvin Maphosa says there is still a long way to go in the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League despite his side being top of the log with just one round of matches left before the half way stage in the season.

The army side have a slender one point lead at the top of the standings with 30 points, followed by Kwekwe United who are on 29 points while Gweru side, Sheasham are third, two points adrift of the leaders.

But Maphosa is not focusing on his side’s position on the standings.

“We are not yet there, it’s still a long way to go but I am happy the boys are giving a fight,” Maphosa said.

Tongogara have played bridesmaid in the race for promotion on numerous occasions losing out to Nichrut in 2017, as well as Telone in 2018 before again faltering at the last stage last season finishing behind Telone.

For Maphosa, their past failures are a thing of the past and should not be used to define the army side’s campaign this time around.

“It is a thing of the past, it’s a thing of the past and we are not even looking at that,” he said.

Tongogara play host to Beitbridge fc this Saturday hoping to cement their position on the log. Second placed Kwekwe United are also at home to FC Platinum U19 on the same day.

Third placed Sheasham are away to Max Ruza’s Blanket Mine in Gwanda while resurgent Chapungu hosts Wangu Mazodze City at the Josiah Tungamirai Airbase.
