RUVIMBO funeral Central Region Soccer League’s leading top goal scorer, Edward Watson says he is yet to hit his best form this term and has promised to keep banging the goals.
Watson has been in superb form for Chapungu this season and is a goal shy of reaching double digits having scored nine goals so far.
After 15 rounds of matches played, the Chapungu talisman has already surpassed the six goals he got for the airmen last campaign.
He currently leads the race for the golden boot having scored two more than Sheasham’s Ayanda Ncube who is second on the goal scorers’charts.
“I do have my own personal targets, infact, i have not yet reached half of the target i set for myself this season, I still have a long way to go,” the Chapungu forward told The Echo Sports.
“It’s been a long time coming for me i have been waiting for this to start happening. I have worked on scoring, and i have not yet reached halfway of where i want to be.”
The 27 year old added that the secret to his good run of form has been working hard on the training pitch.
“I’m sure practice has carried me up to this point.I have kept on practicing hitting the nets and things are starting to happen,” added the former Kariba Waves,Banket United and Blue Swallows striker.
Chapungu are one of the favourites for promotion into the premiership this season.
After a good start, the air force of Zimbabwe side appeared to have lost track of their campaign at some point losing five consecutive matches.
However, the Tawanda Marimo coached side has turned the tide winning their last six matches with Watson as the mainstay of their resurgence together with the experienced duo of Tineyi Chitora and Allan Tavarwisa.
Waru Waru are fifth on the log standings with 25 points, four behind leaders Kwekwe United.
For Watson, the weight of expectation to lead the Gweru side back into the premiership is not weighing down on his shoulders.
“My football career was once miserable during the early stages as i faced many challenges, i was once given unnecessary pressure when I was still young and that strengthened my mindset,” said the player nicknamed Kariba.
“Now pressure is just a cup of tea especially with the good coaches we have.”
On the promotion race he said :”So far we are not yet talking about this promotion thing, we are still fighting for the first position.Promotion will come after we top up on the log table, so, time for that will come soon.”
