FC PLATINUM shot to the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after a slender 1-0 win over Bulawayo Chiefs at Luveve stadium on Saturday.
Speedy winger Davison Marowa scored the only goal of the match seven minutes before the break, punishing the Chiefs defence for their sloppiness.
Amakhosi Amahle defender Xolani Moyo lost possession in a dangerous area allowing FC Platinum striker Wilfred Muvirimi to pounce but the forward’s effort hit the frame of the goal.
The rebound fell in the path of Marowa who made no mistake from close range scoring what proved to be the winner for Pure Platinum Play.
The Zvishavane side are now on 31 points, one more than Manica Diamonds who dropped points in a one all draw against Yadah Stars at the Heart stadium.
Despite the win, FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza felt that his charges were not at their best, attributing the drop in performance to the international break.
“It was a good game of football but performance wise I don’t think we really did well,” Mapeza said.
“We had some good opportunities but we were guilty of some poor decision making in the final third, maybe it’s because of the break, the momentum dropped a bit.”
Elsewhere, Simba Bhora made light work of new boys Arenel Movers with an emphatic 3-0 win. Warriors striker Tymon Machope scored a brace while Mthokozisi Msebe got the other.
At Baobab stadium in Mhondoro Ngezi, Obriel Chirinda marked his return to the fold with a goal as champions Ngezi Platinum Stars dispatched Chicken Inn 3-0.
Talent Chamboko and Takunda Benhura got the other goals for the miners.
But it was Chirinda who was the toast of the afternoon as the striker made a scoring debut for the champions after spending months on the sidelines due to a contractual dispute between his side and former league champions Dynamos.
