FORMER Zimbabwe national team defenders Jimmy Dzingai and Victor Kamhuka are trying their luck at Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side Telone with the hope of joining the Gweru side.
The pair together with experienced goalkeeper Chris Mverechena are among a host of players looking to impress Wifi boys gaffer Hebert Maruwa ahead of the mid season transfer window in July.
The transfer window opens on July 1 and Maruwa has indicated that he is looking to bolster his side particularly in the defensive areas.
“They are trying their luck and obviously if they make the grade we will sign them,” Maruwa said.
“We need to improve our defensive areas, we also need to improve our goalkeeping as well as in midfield. We have a number of youngsters who are looking to help us since we have a limited number of slots in the mid season.”
Telone have the worst defence in the league so far this term having conceded 20 goals, one more than basement side Hwange.
Should the pair agree terms with the telecoms outfit, they will provide the much needed experience at the back given their wealth of experience.
Kamhuka is a journeyman having featured for Dynamos, How Mine as well as Black Leopards in the South African league. He also had stints in Asia in countries such as Singapore,Thailand and India.
Dzingai is also expected to bring a wealth of experience having featured for Dynamos,Triangle,Yadah and Nkana in the Zambian league.
The Gweru side is currently in a precarious position on the log standings sitting 15th with 12 points and are on a nine match winless run.
On Sunday Telone hosts Caps United at Bata stadium with Maruwa emphasizing on the importance of picking maximum points at home starting with the match against Makepekepe.
“We need to make sure when we are playing at home we get a positive result we have to win at home. We need a straight win to ensure we survive relegation so at home a win is a must ad when we go away we must get at least a point,” added Maruwa.
